We recently announced that we're opening an office in Buenos Aires, and this role will be one of the first members of the team.

We're looking for a Senior Database Engineer to join our team and ensure our databases and the applications they support are performant, scalable and reliable. This role blends database expertise with a strong application-aware mindset, ensuring that changes at the data layer translate seamlessly into improved product experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize and tune database performance, including advanced query optimization
  • Design, maintain and improve libraries connecting product applications to databases, including caching layers
  • Implement and manage caching strategies and database migrations
  • Collaborate closely with product engineers to ensure database changes align with and support application needs
  • Script regularly for automation, infrastructure and reliability tasks
  • Build tools and libraries to enhance database reliability and streamline developer workflows
  • Work in Linux/bash environments for scripting and systems operations
  • Support and scale MongoDB and PostgreSQL in production environments
  • Lead projects that directly contribute to team and engineering deliverables
  • Mentor junior engineers in technical skills and company culture

Requirements

You'll thrive as a Senior Database Engineer if you:

  • Have 7+ years of professional experience in database engineering, reliability engineering or related roles with a proven track record of scaling and optimizing production databases
  • Are experienced in MongoDB and PostgreSQL at scale
  • Have a strong background in database optimization, query tuning and migration planning
  • Are familiar with application-layer impacts of database changes and comfortable working alongside product engineers
  • Are skilled in scripting and automation (YAML, Pulumi, bash/Linux) with the ability to build supporting tools and libraries
  • Have exposure to Node.js or similar languages
  • Are a pragmatic problem-solver who can balance database reliability, performance and developer productivity
